1. Step Ladder
Rubbermaid 3-step folding steel ladder with hand grip – Every DIYer, or homeowner for that matter, needs a step ladder for things like changing light bulbs to climbing up into the attic. What I like about this one is that it has three steps for those hard to reach places and the safety factor of having the bar in the front to hold you steady on the ladder.
2. Hand Tool Set
GreatNeck 119-Piece Household Tool Set with Hard Case – This is a great starter set with all of the essential hand tools a DIYer should have for small projects or household repairs. You will use some (or all) of your hand tools on every project.
3. Cordless Power Drill
DeWalt Xtreme 12-volt Max 3/8-in Brushless Cordless Drill – This is the most used tool in our home and I don’t know what we’d do without it. It comes with two rechargeable batteries so you’ll always have power available and the torque to get things done! Make sure you order the bits you want to go with it.
4. Screwdriver Bit Set
DeWalt 40 Piece Magnetic Screwdriver Bit Set – Of course, screwdriver drill bits with multiple heads in different sizes are a must-have when you own a power drill. These are magnetic which any DIYer will love – no more searching the floor for fallen screws!
5. Drill Bit Set

Tavool Stud Finder Wall Scanner – Many of your project involve hanging pictures, shelves, and small cabinets to your interior walls. Knowing where the studs are located is important! This one is great because it includes 5 scanning modes for woods, metal studs, AC wires, joists, beams, metal pipes, rebar and other objects in walls, ceilings etc. It accurately finds the center of a stud.
8. Orbital Sander
DeWalt 20-Volt Brushless Cordless Random Orbital Sander – This is the most used sander in our workshop. It’s great for sanding previously stained wood down to the natural finish and smoothing rough boards. Best of all, it’s cordless so we don’t have to worry about where we’re working on a project
Craftsman 16 Gallon Wet/Dry Vac with Attachments – Every workshop needs one of these! This one is a heavy-duty 16-gallon capacity wet/dry shop vacuum with handy attachments, including the floor wand which we use often. But it’s also great for vacuuming inside the car too.
10. Mechanical Stool
Craftsman Work Seat – When working on a project for long periods of time, the hydraulic stool will be your best friend! I’ve tried others but what I like most about this one is the adjustable height range. Saves you from crawling on the floor for those low sections of a project.
11. Portable Air Compressor with Pneumatic Nail Guns
Bostitch Portable Air Compressor 2 Tool Combo Kit – Every DIYer needs one of these to get the job done quicker – Its small 6-gallon capacity with convenient handle makes it portable and easy to carry to whatever room you’re working in. Plus it comes with two pneumatic nailers; a brad nailer and a straight finish nailer.
Irwin Quick-Grip 8-Pack Assorted Clamp Set – Many projects require you to glue pieces together and clamp them until the glue dries. Sometimes you need to clamp an object to your workbench while cutting, sanding or drilling. You can never have enough clamps! This is a great starter kit because it comes with spring clamps, two different size bar clamps, and pipe clamps.
13. Compound Sliding Miter Saw
DeWalt Sliding Compound Miter Saw – This power tool is often the second power tool a DIYer purchases, after their power drill/driver. I love the sliding function of this miter saw because it allows you to cut larger planks of wood.
14. Dremel Rotary Tool
Dremel Variable Speed Multipurpose Rotary Tool – Tis is such a handy tool to have. It grinds, cuts, sands, polishes, and engraves. But we find we use the cutting discs most often. This version is even cordless making it even handier.
15. Long Level
Johnson Level & Tool 48” – There will always be a project where you need a longer level. The only way to know if that shelf or picture is level is to measure it! A level is an indispensable tool for the DIYer. Levels are available in a variety of lengths. I use both a 48-inch level for longer shelves, and a smaller level for pictures. Best of all, this 48-inch version has a tough Structo-Cast frame is non-conductive and will not scratch fine wood or painted surfaces.
